Learn with us
Through the Animal & Veterinary Service’s (AVS) educational programmes, students will learn about how they can contribute to a sustainable urban ecosystem where humans and animals live in harmony. This is our commitment to create a society that is aware, compassionate and caring in our City in Nature.
All our educational programmes are free of charge.

Learning Journeys
Learning Journey at The Animal Classroom
Suitable for: Preschools (Nursery 1 and above), Primary schools
Location: Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden
Availability: Tuesday to Friday, excluding public holidays
Duration: 45 minutes
Group Size: 15 to 20 students per group
Students will visit The Animal Classroom and meet rescued pets in AVS’ care. Students will learn what it takes to be a good pet owner and the importance of working together as a family to care for them. They will also get to observe a demonstration of cleaning, feeding and grooming for various pet animals.
Learning Journey at the Centre for Animal Rehabilitation
Suitable for: Secondary schools (Secondary 3 and above), tertiary schools
Location: Animal and Plant Health Centre
Availability: Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays
Duration: 2 hours
Group Size: 15 to 20 students per group
Students will visit the Centre for Animal Rehabilitation and get insights into the world of canine behaviour. Whether they currently own dogs, are looking to become future dog owners, or prefer to observe them from afar, they can hone their skill of interpreting a dog’s body language to understand how a dog might be feeling. As training is an important aspect of pet ownership, they will also learn how to train animals using humane, welfare-considered approaches and discover where to seek help in addressing their pets’ behaviours.
School Talks
Show and Tell
Suitable for: Preschools (Nursery 1 and above), Primary schools
Location: Your school premises
Availability: Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays
Duration: 45 minutes
Group Size: 20 to 40 students per group
AVS will pay a visit to your school with a rescued pet in AVS’ care. Students will learn what it takes to be a good pet owner, why only certain types of animals should be kept as pets and why to never abandon a pet. They will then get to meet the animal ambassador and learn how to behave when meeting a pet.
Responsible Cat Care Assembly Talk
Suitable for: Primary schools, secondary schools
Location: Your school premises
Availability: Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays
Duration: 45 minutes
Students will learn more about cat behaviours and characteristics since there is an increase in community cats around us. They will also learn about responsible cat ownership and how to keep them safe at home.
