Legislation
We play a vital role in safeguarding Singapore's green spaces and wildlife. To achieve this, we rely on a robust regulatory framework. Refer to the following for an overview of the key laws that guide our organisation.
Animals and Birds Act
The Animals and Birds Act is an Act for:
Preventing the introduction into, and the spreading within, Singapore of diseases of animals, birds or fish
Controlling the movement of animals, birds and fish into, within and from Singapore.
Preventing cruelty to animals, birds or fish.
Maintaining the general welfare and improvement of animals, birds or fish in Singapore.
Wildlife Act
The Wildlife Act prohibits the feeding, release, killing, trapping, taking, and keeping of wildlife without written approval from the Director-General of Wildlife Management.
It also regulates the import, sale, and export of wildlife.
Endangered Species (Import and Export) Act
The Endangered Species (Import and Export Act) is an Act that gives effect to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) controlling the importation, exportation, re-exportation and introduction from the sea of certain animals and plants, and parts and derivatives of such animals and plants.
