Who we are
About the Animal & Veterinary Service, the main touch-point on animal and veterinary matters in Singapore
The Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS) is a cluster within the National Parks Board (NParks). It is the main touch-point on animal and veterinary matters in Singapore and the First Responder for all animal-related feedback.
We strive to enhance veterinary care and animal management in Singapore as part of NParks’ mission and vision to create the best living environment.
AVS was formed on 1 April 2019, following the restructuring of the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA).
What we do
Safeguarding the wellbeing of animals in Singapore
AVS safeguards the health and welfare of animals in Singapore through managing pets, community animals, wildlife and its relevant industries.
The cluster actively works with the community, such as pet owners, animal welfare groups (AWGs), and the general public, to protect and promote the welfare of animals. We also work closely with partners in the veterinary and animal-related industries to strengthen capacities and enhance competencies in animal health and welfare.
Ensuring animal health
AVS ensures that Singapore remains free from animal diseases of economic and public health importance, such as rabies and avian influenza, through cross-boundary exchange and interdisciplinary cooperation. Working with our human health counterparts to develop comprehensive and integrated programmes, we continue to ensure that both animals and humans in our nation stay healthy and safe from such threats.
Through regulation, public education, and engagement programmes, we aim to foster a humane and gracious society for all, where our community and animals can coexist in greater harmony within our City in Nature.
