What to do if you find a missing pet
Steps to take if you find a missing pet
If you have found a missing pet, secure the animal safely before taking the following steps:
Step 1: Contact the Animal Response Centre (ARC) at 1800 4761600 for assistance.
Provide the officer or staff with information such as:
Postal code, date and timing where the pet was found
Whether the pet has any accessories (Collar / ID tag)
Physical description of the pet, including any special markings it may have
Step 2: Inform other Animal Welfare Groups (e.g. SPCA) of the found pet.
Step 3: Bring the pet to a vet clinic to scan for its microchip number.
If the microchip number is registered with AVS, AVS will be able to trace it to the owner for reunification.
Step 4: Try to reach out to the pet’s owner.
Put up flyers around the neighbourhood.
Advertise on online communities such as social media or local group chats.
Put up a notice in the classified ads section to reach out to the pet’s owner. Most newspapers offer this service for free.
If the pet you found matches the description of a lost pet advertised in the classified ads section of a newspaper, or on notices or flyers, contact the owner directly.
