World Animal Day
A family-friendly event on animal welfare
They say it takes a village to raise a child. As pets play a bigger and bigger role in family life, this also applies when it comes to caring for them
Ensuring the health and welfare of an animal, whether it be a pet or a community animal, is not just the responsibility of its owners or caregivers. It is shaped by the industry professionals who choose to make a career in animal care and groups that dedicate their purpose to animal welfare.
This World Animal Day, the Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS) brings you the event that brings together this village.
Organised by AVS and brought to life with the support of the National Library Board and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), the multiple parties involved in the provision of care for an animal is reflected in this event. But it does not stop with government agencies and animal groups. The village is also made up of members of the community, the everyday people, who all have a part to play.
Join us for hands-on experiences, engaging programmes, and community connections that show just how much of a difference we can make when we show up for animals together. Starting with a series of free programmes at the Central Public Library throughout September, the activities culminate in a two-day event on 3 and 4 October. Whether you've been thinking about getting a pet, have little ones who go wild for animals, or simply want to spend a weekend learning about all things animal-related, there's a place for you in this village.
Dates: 3 to 4 October 2026
Time: 10:00AM to 5:00PM
Location: The Plaza, National Library Building
More details of the event will be released closer to the date, stay tuned for World Animal Day!
